THE STORY BEHIND THE PROJECT

  • Design

Our design is a mixture of West african and Scandinavian influences. Our baskets combines bold patterns in a minimalistic approach. We take pride in creating designs that celebrate cultural heritage while pushing boundaries and exploring new possibilities

  • Production

The manufacturing of our baskets are made in collaboration with skilled artisans in Tamale, Ghana. The Northern region of the country, is known for the rich history of artisanship. We work with a handful of trusted artisans, who handle the creation of our baskets and are experts in their craft

  • Materials

We use locally sourced naturel materials in our baskets. The main material is elephant grass, which is traditionally used in Bolga weaving. Known for its durability and versatility, we take careful steps to proces some of the elephant grass, in order to achieve specific colors

The Core values of Makers Collect by Munk & Loua

Enviromental and social awareness is crucial to Makers Collect by Munk & Loua. Our passion lies in creating high-quality objects that not only tells a story but also contribute positively to our planet and the communities that we work with. We work closely with artisans and honor their traditions.

We have through our travels as makers, been exposed to some of the worlds finest crafts and we hope to reinterpret and showcase some of that diverse craftsmanship on Makers Collect.

As makers, we recognize that the choices we make today have a lasting impact on the world around us, which is why we continuously strive to improve our practice and the relationship to our artisanal collaborators.
